Ernie Irvan's North Carolina Speedway Highlights...

It was a successful debut for the new "M&M's"(tm) Chocolate Candies colors at Daytona International Speedway. The "M&M's"(tm) Racing team started the season opener from the 31st position, but it took little time for the "M&M's"( Pontiac to draft to the front of the pack. With a good car under him, Irvan had the No. 36 Pontiac running as high as third in the late stages of the race. After a minor fender bender altered the aerodynamics of the car, Irvan finished 14th.

Ernie Irvan, driver of the "M&M's"(tm) Pontiac, has a successful record at North Carolina Speedway. He has eight top-10 finishes including four top fives in 18 starts at the 1.017-mile oval.

Irvan has started twice from the outside pole position at North Carolina Speedway. Irvan captured his first outside pole in the fall of 1991 and followed that up with the second quickest time in the spring of 1993.

Irvan will be signing copies of his new book, "Ernie Irvan, the NASCAR Driver's Story of Tragedy and Triumph, No Fear," on Tuesday, February 23 in Winston Salem, N.C., and Thursday, February 25, in Greensboro, N.C. Irvan will be signing at the Wal-Mart on Hanes Mall Boulevard in Winston-Salem from 6-7:30 p.m., and Borders on High Point Road in Greensboro from 6-7:30 p.m.

Ernie Irvan's thoughts on racing at North Carolina Speedway...

"Going from the superspeedway at Daytona to a short track like Rockingham isn't really a big adjustment. I have been to Rockingham a lot of times and I know what to expect. The "M&M's"(tm) racing team has to get their minds set on Rockingham and what we need to do to run well there.

"Tire wear is always an issue at Rockingham. The key for us to run well is to set up our car so that it handles the best it can. The "M&M's"( m) Pontiac needs to handle the best it possibly can so that our tire wear is better than the other 42 cars."
