Fontana: Dale Jarrett preview

FONTANA, Calif., April 23, 2002 --- The NASCAR Winston Cup Series will set its watch back three hours when teams travel to the west coast venue of California Speedway for the running of the "NAPA Auto Parts 500." Just a short jaunt from the bright lights of Hollywood, California Speedway offers speed and two-wide racing on its two-mile quad-oval. Dale Jarrett and the #88 UPS team hope to strike gold this weekend in the "NAPA Auto Parts 500." Green flag waves at 12 noon PCT, with FOX providing live racing coverage.

California Speedway Features Horsepower and Aerodynamics
"The two big things at California are horsepower and aerodynamics," Jarrett said. "Robert Yates probably the best motor program out there and that's a huge advantage at a place like California where you have long straightaways and you need that motor power to hurry down them. I like the track. It's very comparable to Michigan Speedway and that's just about my favorite track on the schedule. California is wide and offers plenty of room for passing. It's just a good racing track."

Jarrett To Get Things Started At Angels Game
Jarrett will take to the baseball diamond at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., Friday, April 26 to make the first pitch in the game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The game is slated for a 7:05 p.m. starting time, with Jarrett taking the mound at 6:55 p.m. This will be Jarrett's second time at performing the ceremonial first pitch. He last did it in June 1999 at a Detroit Tigers game.

"Since I am such a big sports fan, I always enjoy being able to watch other athletes perform," Jarrett said. "It is a great honor to be asked by the Angels to throw out the first pitch at one of their games. Hopefully, it will be the start of a good weekend for us."

It's Time To Get Things Started . . . It's The Muppets
Dale Jarrett and the #88 UPS Racing Team is just one race team that will participate in Muppet RaceMania this year. The Jim Henson Company is celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Muppet Show(tm) and has partnered with Action Performance Companies, Inc., to design special Muppet(tm) paint scheme racecars. Jarrett will race a special paint scheme that features Kermit the Frog(tm) and Miss Piggy(tm) at Chicagoland Speedway on July 14 as part of the celebration. The Jim Henson Company is hosting a Muppet RaceMania VIP Event at their studios in Hollywood, Calif., Thursday, April 25 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Ontario Is Home To The UPS West Coast Air Hub
Fontana Calif., is home to the imposing California Speedway, while nearby Ontario is home to the UPS West Coast Air Hub. The air hub in Ontario is one of UPS' six regional air locations. The West Coast Air Hub has air sort capabilities of 36,000 packages/documents per hour, and sorts and distributes a majority of International packages destined for delivery to the Pacific Rim. kk
