Burton looks for improved finishes at Texas

"The new surface at Texas is unbelievable smooth. It really made the track slick. It could get better the more the cars run on it, but I am afraid it will still be a one-groove race track. I wish we could figure out how to put some banking in some of these places."
-Ward Burton, driver of the Caterpillar Racing Dodge

BALDWIN ON TEXAS...

"Texas has been one of those tracks that the CAT team has struggled to have good finishes even with decent runs. Ward's best run was seventh in the inaugural race and after that we've had consistency, but not the kind we are wanting. We've had top-15's and we need to turn those into top-10's and top-fives. We hope that our test session we had there last week is going to help produce those finishes.

"We were able to work on a lot of things that a normal race weekend wouldn't allow us to do. We didn't just make minor changes to the setup, we made drastic changes just to see what it would do. All those things we tried last week will help us narrow our work down when we get there this weekend. We pretty much worked on race trim and put very little emphasis on the qualifying setup. It seems that a lot of the winners this year have come from the back, so I am not overly concerned about our starting spot.

"What I am a little concerned about is how the track is going to react once there is a lot of rubber down on the track. We were pretty decent to begin with and then the track got slick and the handling goes away. The car got loose and it made it very difficult for Ward to drive. It wasn't just Ward, it was a lot of the other drivers that were there testing too. The track just got too slick. But, we'll get to the track on Friday and get qualified and then we'll go to work on the race setup and see what we can come up with on Sunday."

FAST FACTS...

Ward Burton and the Caterpillar Racing team will run the same car that they competed with at Atlanta (seventh) last month. The team tested this car and their backup car during a two-day test session last week.

Car owner, Bill Davis, spent the past week in Arkansas on his farm helping with the last few calves to be birthed. Davis enjoys spending his down time at his farm building his cattle herd. He has a Brangus cattle, a mix between Brahma and Black Angus. His wife Gail, spent her week in Arkansas as well. Only she spent her time at their trucking company, Bill Davis Trucking.
