Motorsport.com -- After a successful career in Craftsman Trucks, Ron Hornaday will now lose his Winston Cup ride for 2002, as A.J. Foyt Racing has confirmed that Hornaday's final ride with the team will be this Friday at Loudon, New Hampshire.
Currently, Hornaday stands 38th in Cup points and 5th in the rookie point standings with 31 starts. His best finish came at Las Vegas where he managed a ninth place for the team.
In 2000, Hornaday left CTS to drive for Dale Earnhardt Sr. in the Busch series, where he finished fifth in the standings with two wins and six top-five finishes. The team was folded to make room for the Michael Waltrip Cup team.
Hornaday won the Craftsman Truck title in 1996 and 1998, and in 1997 he was voted the most popular driver in the series. Prior to racing in CTS, Hornaday raced karts, motorcycles and modifieds before moving to the Featherlite Southwest series.
Hornaday won two championships in the Southwest series (1992 and 1993) and as a competitor in Winston West, Hornaday won the title of Most Popular Driver (1994).
Foyt Racing has not named a driver for the 2002 season yet, but several candidates are still available.
There has been no official word or statement from Ron Hornaday.
