Petty to receive award: Richard Petty will be the recipient of the Lombardi Symbol of Courage Award on Saturday night in Washington D.C. The Lombardi Award is given annually to a sports related cancer survivor who embodies the 'inspirational qualities of the late great Vince Lombardi'.

Petty recovered from prostate cancer in 1995.

Tony Eury Sr. named Wypall Crew Chief of the Year: Crew chief of the No. 8 Budweiser Chevrolet, Tony Eury, Sr. received the Wypall Crew Chief of the Year Award. Eury had been named Wypall Crew Chief of the race nine times this season.

"I'm proud to be honored among all the crew chiefs in the garage," said Eury. "I want to thank this whole crew."

RCR makes it official: As expected Richard Childress Racing named Jeff Burton as the new driver of the No. 31 Cingular Chevy beginning in 2005. Burton replaces Robby Gordon.

No announcement was made on who will take over Burton's seat in the No. 30 Chevy. AOL confirmed they will not be returning as the sponsor of that car, it is speculated that the team is awaiting clearance from NASCAR regarding hard liquor sponsorships on cars.

Jack Daniels is rumored to be headed for the No. 30 as primary sponsor, and Crown Royal to the No. 99 Ford of Carl Edwards if NASCAR allows liquor sponsors into the series.

Ashton Lewis, Jr. to drive for Rensi: It was announced that Lewis will be the primary driver of the No. 25 Team Marines car starting in 2005.

Bobby Hamilton, Jr. paces final practice: Hamilton nailed down the fastest lap in final practice for NEXTEL Cup teams with a lap of 185.257 mph.

Mark Martin, Carl Edwards, Brian Vickers and Joe Nemechek round out the top five quickest times.

No. 1 DEI Chevy goes part time in 2005: Martin Truex, Jr. with pilot the No. 1 Chevy part-time for Dale Earnhardt, Inc. starting next season with Bass Pro Shops as the primary sponsor with a full time program possible starting in 2006.
