Mayfield signs deal to drive for BDR
Jeremy Mayfield has signed a three-year deal to drive for Bill Davis Racing commencing in 2007. Mayfield will field the No. 36 Toyota Camry, 360 OTC joins BDR as the primary sponsor of Mayfield's Toyota.
"I'm very, very excited about the opportunity to be a part of Bill Davis Racing," Mayfield said. "I've always thought a lot of and had a lot of respect for Bill and Gail, and I'm thrilled to be a part of their organization."
Labbe to MB2: Former No. 88 Robert Yates Racing Ford crew chief Slugger Labbe has joined MB2 Motorsports. Labbe's official title has not yet been released but his primary function will be to help the company expand in 2007 and work with drivers Sterling Marlin and Joe Nemechek.
"Slugger is a talented crew chief and when the opportunity became available to hire him we jumped on it," said General Manager Jay Frye. "We recently shored up our organization when Bobby Ginn purchased majority interest in MB2, Bobby is committed to growing our program and making our teams better."
"I am excited to join MB2 Motorsports," said Labbe. "The company has a good vision on what's going to happen in the coming years. I hope my knowledge in the Nextel Cup field will help the organization. This is a great opportunity and I am looking forward to getting started."
No changes to Chase races in 2007: The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) released the 2007 NASCAR Nextel Series schedule earlier this week. Despite rumblings earlier in the year that certain Chase dates may change, NASCAR elected to keep the same 10 races in place for 2007.
Sadler excited about second start: Elliott Sadler will make his second start in the No. 19 Evernham Motorsports Dodge this week at Bristol Motor Speedway, the site of Sadler's first win in 2001 (with the Woods Brothers in the No. 21 Ford).
"I think we're very excited, I am, to go to a track like Michigan where my stats aren't the best in the world anyway as a driver and qualify on the front row, to struggle a little bit at the beginning of the race and work on it and work on it and to come back and use some pit strategy and get a top 10 was a great run for our Dodge Dealers team," said Sadler. "It's pretty neat. I still have a lot to learn about the Dodge Charger. It does not react to the same adjustments I've been used to the last seven or eight years. I've got to learn that as a driver and kind of feel my way through that. It was a great run for us. To come out of the box and be able to do that and get the first top 10 I think was very important to me, and I think it was very important to those guys.
"We learned a lot of similarities between myself and Kasey Kahne the way we drive a racecar. It's going to help both of us in the future. Right now I think everybody is excited at Evernham Motorsports and we're looking forward to building a good foundation, building a good relationship with my guys and sponsors and moving along the rest of the year to get ready for the Daytona 500 next year."
Busch tops practice: Kurt Busch, who won the Spring Bristol race, topped NASCAR Nextel Cup practice Friday morning at Bristol Motor Speedway with a lap of 125.436 mph.
Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton, Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards complete the top five fastest times.
