What's in a nose? Apparently speed. The Evernham Dodge's have been dominating at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with all three cars qualifying in the top ten. Word is that although completely legal, the Evernham Dodge stable is using a different nose on their cars than the other Dodge teams. It's working like gangbusters, and they should be the team to beat on Sunday.
Schedule realignment. It's only the third race of the season and the hot topic continues to be what will become of the Nextel Cup schedule in 2005. Popular opinion is that we have traveled to Rockingham for the final time. The second date at Darlington also seems to be in jeopardy, as well as Watkins-Glen. Darlington for the pure fact that it doesn't sell out both dates and is in close proximity to other Southern dates, and Watkins-Glen because the facilities are antiquated.
"I have been to high school football stadiums that have better media facilities than Watkins-Glen," said a NASCAR key media member that preferred to stay anonymous.
With the inability for tracks in Seattle and New York to be built within one-year and added onto the schedule, it is anyone's guess what NASCAR will reveal this summer as to whether the 2005 calendar will be "tweaked" or if they will give it a "facelift".
Better racing at Vegas? No, not really. Although the Busch race managed to pull-off an exciting finish most teams don't think we will see too much side-by-side racing on Sunday. Vegas is one of those tracks that promotes single file racing, and teams aren't predicting much change for this event.
Gentleman, open your wallets. If the sports book odds-makers have any say a young gun is going to win this race. The odds favor Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Jimmie Johnson, and Ryan Newman to be among the drivers that take home the Vegas trophy.
Tires. Tires. Tires. What the odds-makers don't know is they are probably right, not because picking a younger driver is just the way the sport is evolving, but because the younger drivers don't seem to be as affected by the newer tire. Kasey Kahne leads the charge, after picking up his first Bud pole award and finishing second in the Busch series event on Saturday.
What were they talking about? Teresa Earnhardt and Britney Spears? The two were embroiled in conversation Saturday night. Wonder if Teresa wants Britney to play her in the movie.
Betting on yourself in NASCAR. Seems like it should be OK in Vegas, but although NASCAR has made no official rule change regarding betting on the sport if you are a competitor - most feel that the new rule is on the horizon. And should be in place before the end of the season.
We want your opinion!
