Eury, Jr. resigns with DEI: The future of Tony Eury, Jr. at Dale Earnhardt, Incorporated Racing has been locked in for the immediate future. DEI announced earlier this week that they had resigned Eury to a long-term contract.

"I couldn't be happier," Eury, Jr. said. "I've spent many years with DEI and always planned to be for a long time to come. With all the outside distractions now behind us, we can focus on winning races."

Eury currently serves as crew chief for the No. 15 Chevy of Michael Waltrip. Waltrip announced earlier this year that he would not be returning to DEI in 2006. It was not specified what team Eury will be affiliated with next season.

Staubach/Aiken plan to launch Cup team: Football greats Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman announced this week that they will field a Nextel Cup team hopefully by next season.

They are planning in having a Chevy entered in the 2006 season opening Daytona 500. Currently, they are searching for a crew and driver.

"It's a team effort of getting the car and the driver," said Staubach. "We've got some drivers talking to us. There are some people who want to switch teams, kind of like free agency. ... We've got to get that Troy Aikman to get in there to drive it."

ST Motorsports and Wood Brothers join forces: The duo announced on Friday that the two teams will merge. Wood Brothers currently field one Nextel Cup team and ST fields two Busch teams.

Eventually they will field a two-car Cup team. Ricky Rudd drives the No. 21 Ford for the Wood Brothers, although his future in that car has not been secured. Rudd has hinted at retirement for some time.

Jon Wood drives one of ST's Busch series cars.

Jarrett paces Happy Hour: Dale Jarrett turned the quickest lap in Happy Hour for Nextel Cup teams. Jarrett was the only driver to hit the 187 mph mark, with his lap of 187.208.

Ryan Newman, Joe Nemechek, Kasey Kahne and Kurt Busch complete the top five.
