Jr. wants to drive, but Truex will relieve: Dale Earnhardt, Jr. wants to drive the No. 8 DEI Chevy this weekend in Loudon. To make sure that injuries that were suffered during an American Le Mans event in Sonoma are not aggravated, Martin Truex, Jr. will practice and qualify the car.

Truex will also relieve Earnhardt on Sunday, after he makes a few laps in the No. 8 Chevy. Earnhardt must start the race in order for driver points to reflect under his name on the scoreboard.

Craven out of 32 at season end: Ricky Craven and Cal Wells announced this week that at the close of the 2004 season their relationship will come to an end. No word on what driver Wells will recruit for the car. Best guess? Bobby Hamilton, Jr.

Harold Holly has signed on to crew chief in 2005.

Gordon's strive for five is a bust: Four-time Cup series champion, Jeff Gordon, attempted to make his fifth consecutive pole of the season at Loudon; which would have tied a modern-era record (1972 - present) held by Cale Yarborough and Bobby Allison. Yarborough won five consecutive poles in 1980 while Allison won five straight in 1972.

Gordon failed to put the No. 24 Chevy on the pole for the event.

Crew chief change for Ward Burton: Burton's No. 0 team released crew chief Tony Furr this week and hired veteran crew chief Bill Ingle. Furr had been demoted to shop foreman, but has since left the organization.

McMurray on pole for Busch event: Cup series driver Jamie McMurray, who took over driving duties for the Rusty Wallace owned No. 66 Dodge this weekend, put the car on the pole for Busch event on Saturday. Wallace fired Billy Parker after Chicago after a streak of poor performances.
