Jeff Gordon remarries: Jeff Gordon and Belgian model Ingrid Vandebosch were married in a private ceremony in Mexico on Tuesday. The two announced their engagement earlier this season and he credits Vandebosch with having changed his perspective on life, in the best way possible.
Gordon went through a very public, messy divorce in 2002 from his first wife, Brooke - a former Miss Winston.
Tryson to No. 16 Roush Ford: Doug Richert won't have to worry about Greg Biffle throwing Subway subs on him anymore. Starting in 2007, Pat Tryson will take over as crew chief for the No. 16 Ford of Biffle replacing Richert.
Tryson has served as Mark Martin's crew chief on the No. 6 Roush Ford for the past three seasons.
"I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with Greg in 2007," said Tryson. "Obviously our top priority for next season is getting Greg back in the Chase. He's a great driver and I hope to continue my personal streak of making the Chase with him."
Jimmy Fennig will crew chief the No. 6 Roush Ford - Richert apparently has been offered a job within the organization but no official word if he will be staying.
"Jimmy Fennig is coming over from the Busch shop and the Truck shop," said Jack Roush. "Jimmy provided leadership for all the crew chiefs - both Truck and Busch - all the junior guys over there. He and Mike Beam gave stability and provided an anchor to be able to base all those programs, so that was great, but I need for him to follow David Ragan over to the 6 car and build a strong program for AAA and for David. I'm sure he'll be able to do that as he did with Kurt Busch. I think the potential is very much the same in terms of what we expect in 2007 from David."
Borland won't crew chief final two races: Matt Borland crew chief for the No. 12 Penske Dodge of Ryan Newman will hand over the reigns to Mike Nelson for the final two races of 2006. While Borland cited "personal reasons" for not working at Phoenix and Homestead, team sources allege that he will not be returning as Ryan Newman's crew chief.
It is rumored that Borland is headed to Team Red Bull to assume crew chief duties for the Toyota Camry of Brian Vickers.
Bob Osbourne back at the 99 Ford: Bob Osbourne will resume crew chief duties of the No. 99 Roush Racing Ford of Carl Edwards effective immediately. He began the season with Edwards but in April, Osbourne went over to the No. 26 Ford of Jamie McMurray and Wally Brown took over the helm at the No. 99.
Both teams have struggled this season. Brown will crew chief for McMurray for the last two races of the season.
Holiday Inn and RCR: Jeff Burton and Scott Wimmer will split duties in the No. 29 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet in the Busch Series with Holiday Inn Hotels and Resorts as the sponsor. Wimmer will also attempt to make the Cup race at Homestead-Miami Speedway this year in the No. 33 Holiday Inn Chevy as well as a handful of Cup races next season.
MB2 finalizes 2007 plans: MB2 will field three Nextel Cup teams in 2007. As previously announced, Mark Martin and rookie Regan Smith (23) will co-drive the #01 U.S. Army Chevrolet. Martin will drive in 20-point races plus the Bud Shootout and Nextel All Star Challenge. Smith will drive in the remaining 16-point races. Ryan Pemberton will continue to serve as crew chief.
Sterling Marlin will continue to drive MB2's #14 Chevrolet with Richard "Slugger" Labbe as crew chief.
Joe Nemechek will switch from the 01 Chevy to the new #13 team. Peter Sospenzo will crew chief Nemechek's effort.
Brady Bacon signed to Ganassi: Open wheel driver Brady Bacon has signed a development deal with Chip Ganassi with Felix Sabates Racing.
Busch deputized in Arizona: Kurt Busch is getting along way better with the Phoenix police department than he was a year ago. After a bumpy incident with the law last year Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio made Busch an honorary deputy. Busch was pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving; he became belligerent with officers on the scene. While his Breathalyzer fell short of being over the legal limit, Roush Racing removed him from his No. 97 Ford for the final two races of the season. Busch had previously announced before his run in with the law that he would be leaving Roush at the close of the 2005 season for Penske.
Hornish to attempt first NASCAR start: IndyCar sensation Sam Hornish, Jr. will attempt to make his first NASCAR start this weekend in the Busch Series Arizona Travel 200 at Phoenix International Raceway.
The reigning Indy 500 winner still plans to compete full-time in the Indy Racing League next season with Penske Racing. He will also attempt the season finale Busch race at Homestead-Miami Speedway next weekend. He is expected to run several Busch and Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) races in 2007.
