Discover Card Racing looking to end season on a high note at Homestead.
It's been an interesting season to say the least for the No. 26 HAAS/CARTER Motorsports team. If anything, the year symbolizes the team's ability to preserver through a series of obstacles. So, it's no surprise to see the team eagerly gear up to do battle at one of the most challenging configurations on the circuit -- the 1.5-mile Homestead-Miami Speedway. As for the team's driver, he's ready to end the season on a very high note with a crew he cherishes.
FROM THE COCKPIT:
Todd Bodine, driver, No. 26 Discover Card Racing Taurus:
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS GOING INTO HOMESTEAD FOR THE SEASON FINALE?
"Bittersweet actually. This has been one heck of a season for the entire No. 26 Haas/Carter Motorsports organization. To say we have persevered is an understatement. Thanks to Carl, Travis and Discover Card, we have been fortunate enough to keep this team together and at the same time, remain very competitive. That says a lot about this Discover Card crew. We have performed well despite what we have down on paper. Our results do not reflect how good we've been running. But I can assure you; we will be working hard this weekend to end on a high note. These guys deserve it."
"Carl and Travis are working hard to keep this entire organization together for 2003. I spoke personally to Carl this past weekend and he is actively pursuing sponsorship for next season and the same holds true for Travis. Neither one of them is giving up and nor will I. I would very much like to drive for this organization in 2003 if the opportunity presents itself. The cars that Haas/Carter has put under me during the last two years have been some of the best cars I have ever driven. When Discover Card came on board, I was given the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the No. 26 and work with Donnie Wingo. I can't say enough about what that working relationship has done for me as a driver. I can't believe how well we have worked together and I am sorry to see that relationship come to an end after Homestead. I wish Donnie nothing but the best. I am hoping he and I can walk away from Homestead with a win. That would mean a lot to me."
WHAT DO YOU THINK IT WILL TAKE TO WIN ON SUNDAY?
"Homestead is similar to Phoenix and Rockingham from the standpoint that it is a driver's race track. This track is a challenge for me to drive and I look forward to it because it forces me to raise the bar a bit. Looking back, I've had a mixed bag of results when running here in both the Busch and Cup races. In Cup, I've only run two times with last year's run in the No. 66 Haas/Carter Ford being my best overall performance. I would certainly like to build upon last season's top-20 finish."
"The corners here are really different. They are by far the longest and flattest corners we have to drive through. It will be tricky but I have a few things I'd like to try with Donnie after coming off a Busch test at Homestead a few weeks back. We've been real fortunate to take information from one series and transfer it to another so I'm looking to turn in two solid runs this weekend."
On tap this weekend for the entire Discover Card team, Bud Pole qualifying starting on Friday at 1:05 p.m., ET. Sunday's Discover Card pre-race show begins at noon, ET LIVE followed by the Ford 400 on NBC.
