JOHNNY MILLER TO START 40TH AS RAIN WASHES OUT NASCAR NEXTEL CUP QUALIFYING AT WATKINS GLEN

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (Aug. 13, 2005) -- Johnny Miller will start 40th, based on owners' points, in tomorrow's Sirius Satellite Radio at the Glen NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race at Watkins Glen International after rain washed out qualifying today. Miller will make his third Nextel Cup start, driving the No. 92 Oak Glove Co. Chevrolet Monte Carlo fielded by Front Row Motorsports.

"We've had an uphill struggle all weekend, so we're really excited we made the race," said Miller, who made his Nextel Cup debut in 2003 at Infineon Raceway with Morgan-McClure Motorsports finishing 24th on the lead lap. "We only turned a handful of laps during practice and the set-up wasn't quite where we wanted it. We changed just about everything for qualifying--shocks and springs--then it rained.

"The crew worked hard all weekend," added Miller. "We made a bunch of changes before qualifying, so we'll have a brand-new car for the race. We'll be starting at the back with the likes of Robby Gordon and Boris Said with a setup we haven't tested, so it'll be an eye-opening experience going into turn one."

The Sirius Satellite Radio at the Glen is scheduled to start at 1:35 p.m. EDT on Sunday, Aug. 14. The 90-lap race around the 1.45-mile road course will air on NBC with live coverage beginning at 1 p.m. EDT.

Johnny Miller, from Johnson City, Tenn., was one of NASCAR's "hired guns," competing in two NASCAR Nextel Cup races for Morgan-McClure Motorsports in 2003. He finished 24th on the lead lap in his NASCAR debut at Infineon Raceway and ran as high as fourth at Watkins Glen before a mechanical failure relegated him to a 36th-place finish. Most recently, Miller has been developing Daytona Prototype and GT cars in Grand-Am competition, and is also working as a development driver for several international tire manufacturers. Miller finished second in the 2003 Trans-Am Series Championship, after earning a Trans-Am victory, two poles and scoring eight podium finishes in 10 starts. Miller won the 1996 Trans-Am Rookie of the Year award, and was voted BBS Most Improved Driver by his fellow competitors in 1998. He was the 1984 Chrysler-Dodge National Collegiate Driving champion and has had more than 100 career victories, numerous poles, podiums and track records in several race series, including Trans-Am, Grand-Am, IMSA, ALMS, GT-America and SCCA.
