* Still seeing Pink: For the second of five races in October, Casey Mears will team up once again to promote breast cancer awareness to racing fans across the country. The No. 41 Target Dodge will sport a special pink paint scheme for the second year in a row that will carry the logo of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). Mears will auction off his one-of-a-kind helmet donated by Troy Lee Designs on eBay. The auction will begin on Oct. 21.
* Standings: Casey Mears and the Target team held on to the 25th spot in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup standings after a disappointing finish at Talladega. Mears was running in the top 10, and had led several laps, before being hit from behind and sent spinning. The team was unable to repair the damaged car and finished 38th.
* Kansas: Mears has just two NEXTEL Cup starts at Kansas Speedway. Last year, it looked as if he was poised for a career day when the right-front tire blew out with just 70 laps remaining in the event. Mears was running fourth at the time and had already led 14 laps. He finished 24th in his rookie year at Kansas after qualifying 12th.
* Chassis: Crew chief Jimmy Elledge and the Target Team are bringing their favorite chassis, #206, to Kansas Speedway. This chassis will be making its seventh appearance this season. Mears drove this chassis to a sixth-place finish at Indianapolis, a ninth-place finish at Chicagoland and most recently ran it at California on September 4.
Crew Chief Jimmy Elledge Quotes:
On chassis #206: "This has been a great car for us," said Elledge. "In the six races we've run it, it shouldn't have finished any worse than 10th. Each year you're fortunate enough to get a car that drives well, the driver likes and you can run the same set up in it every where you take it. The only place that we've run this car where we've set it up differently was at Indy.
On Kansas: "Kansas is a great track because it has lost enough grip and there will be multiple grooves like we saw last year, which makes for a great race. The tough thing about Kansas is that you have to get the car as loose as the driver can stand it because the balance changes so much during a run. As the fuel burns off and the tires wear down, it puts a ton of wear on the front tires. This is the type of track where the front tires get a work out."
