Logano Logs More Laps, Gains More Experience, Finishes 39th at Kansas

Joey Logano, driver of the No. 96 DLP HDTV Toyota Camry for Hall of Fame Racing, finished 39th in Sunday's Camping World RV 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City.

The Camping World RV 400 was the second of six scheduled Sprint Cup races in 2008 for Logano, who will drive the No. 20 Toyota Camry full-time for Joe Gibbs Racing in 2008.

"We fought with the car all day," Logano said. "The handling just wasn't there. We finished the race and I learned more about the give and take on the racetrack. We wanted to run better, obviously, but we'll keep after it and try to get better with each run. It's important for me to get seat time and complete as many laps as possible in each race. We've got four more races this year and we need to just keep gaining experience and learning things."

Logano has competed in two Sprint Cup and 14 NASCAR Nationwide Series races in 2008 and has completed 2,807 of 2,854 laps (98.4 percent) available to him. In Saturday's Nationwide Series race, he finished ninth to score his 10th top-10 finish.

Ken Schrader is scheduled to drive the No. 96 DLP HDTV Toyota Camry in next week's Sprint Cup race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. Logano will then return to the No. 96 for Sprint Cup races at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C., Oct. 11, Martinsville (Va.) Speedway Oct. 18 and Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth Nov. 2. In addition, Logano will attempt to qualify for one other Sprint Cup race in 2008 for Joe Gibbs Racing -- the Oct. 26 event at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

With the 39th-place finish, the No. 96 Hall of Fame Racing entry remains 39th in the series' owner standings with 1,881 points, 301 markers behind the 35th-place No. 7 of Robby Gordon Motorsports.

Jimmie Johnson won the Camping World RV 400 to score his 38th career Sprint Cup victory, his fifth of the season and his first at Kansas. Johnson, who held off a last-lap pass attempt for the lead from Carl Edwards, is now 16th on the all-time Sprint Cup win list. Edwards finished just .280 of a second behind Johnson, while Greg Biffle, Jeff Gordon and Matt Kenseth rounded out the top-five. Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton, David Ragan, A.J. Allmendinger and Elliott Sadler comprised the remainder of the top-10.

There were seven caution periods for 25 laps, with only Martin Truex Jr., failing to finish the 267-lap race.
