Kasey Kahne (No. 9 Budweiser Dodge Charger)
HOW WAS THE TEST AT LOWE'S EARLIER THIS WEEK? "The test was good. We needed to test and try to work some things out on our Budweiser Dodge Charger to make it better. I think we did. All that we did for two days was test, test, and test to try and do things that would make the car better and worse. We never really tried to go fast. We put it all together at the end and made a quick pass and I think that the car was better than where we would have been without the test."
AS DOMINANT AS YOU WERE AT LOWE'S IN THE SPRING RACES, DO YOU ACTUALLY TEST OR IS IT MORE REFINING WHAT YOU HAD EARLIER IN THE YEAR? "Oh yeah -- we test. We unloaded with our spring setup and it wasn't good enough. So we had to start working on the car and we really put our efforts towards testing. We didn't work on much other than testing including some things that can help us here (at Kansas Speedway) too. We learned some things that we think that we can apply here and help us Sunday."
WITH GREG BIFFLE'S BACK-TO-BACK WINS, THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF TALK THIS WEEK ABOUT 'MOMENTUM'. IS THERE SUCH A THING AND DO YOU FEEL IT AS A DRIVER? "I think so. All of a sudden Greg (Biffle) got fast and he's fast everywhere and every time that's he's in the car now. The 16 car hit on some things which has made it fast and he (Biffle) has stepped-up as well."
THE LACK OF SUCCESS ALSO BREEDS THE SLOWING DOWN OF MOMENTUM; CAN A DRIVER LIKE KYLE BUSCH MAKE UP THE 200+ POINTS DEFICIT THAT HE NOW HAS TO OVERCOME? "Not in this Chase. Maybe it can be made up in a full season, but it's not going to be made up in this Chase. There are too many good cars that aren't going to have that many problems. He could win the rest of the races and not make that much of a deficit up. (Kyle) will probably be a fifth to tenth in the points -- that's pretty crazy after the great season that he's had this year."
KANSAS REPRESENTS THE LAST TRACK NOT TO HAVE RUN THE COT YET. ARE YOU HAPPY TO TURN THE PAGE ON THE COT TALK? "I thought it was over with (laughs). We've been running it (COT) for so long now that it seems like it's the car that we've always been running. It's getting better every month or so. We seem to be figuring things out on it and our Dodge is better to drive. We're figuring out the tires a little bit more which is making it better to drive. It's not easy, but the COT is getting closer and closer and as time goes on, the car will be good."
YOU WON THE POLE AT KANSAS IN 2006, TALK ABOUT HOW THIS TRACK HAS MATURED AND YOUR THOUGHTS ON RACING THIS WEEKEND? "It's a good track. It's getting older and the pavement has aged pretty well. There's lots of racing room. (The track) lost some grip which is a good thing because we can slide the cars around the corners a little bit easier. I think the fans are going to see a good race. We need to work on our Budweiser Dodge a little bit to make sure that it's handling like we want it to. If we can do that, it will be a fun day on Sunday."
