CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Oct. 2, 2001) -- While regular Pennzoil driver Steve Park continues his rehabilitation, Kenny Wallace remains behind the wheel of the Dale Earnhardt, Inc.-owned #1 Pennzoil Chevrolet as his dreams of earning his first Winston Cup victory come closer to reality headed to Lowe's Motor Speedway this weekend.

"This is the best Winston Cup team by far that I have ever been associated with," said Wallace, who also continues to race in the Busch Grand National Series in the #48 car. "That Pennzoil car is strong and, while we haven't gotten the breaks needed the past couple of weeks, I know that this is the best opportunity I've gotten to post that elusive victory."

Although his best finish on the 1.5-mile oval occurred in 1999 when he crossed the finish line in the 12th position, Wallace is no stranger to the front spot, leading four different times in the 15 events he's raced at Charlotte. In the fall feature, Wallace has completed 97.5 percent of the laps run and seeks improve upon that statistic this weekend.

"Charlotte has been a fairly decent track for me in the past and, with the powerhouse I've been driving lately, it's going to be a great outing," continued Wallace, who's best start at Charlotte was third during the spring race in 1999. "(Dale) Earnhardt told me once, though, 'Don't tell me what you can do, tell me what you've done.' So let's just see what kind of job I do this weekend."

"Kenny has proven he's a very capable driver," said crew chief Paul Andrews. "We've let him down a little in the pits but we are very happy with his performance in the Pennzoil car. Our finishes aren't indicative of how well we've been running. Kenny has been able to keep the car in the front or move it toward the front in each of the events he has run for us. Pretty confident, we can give him what he needs to win this weekend. We're hoping so anyway."

Although competing in the oldest Monte Carlo of the Pennzoil fleet in the DEI stable, Wallace suffers from no disadvantage as he seeks his first victory since it's the same car that took Park to a second-place finish at Texas earlier this year and is no stranger to Lowe's Motor Speedway, having run strong there during the spring race.
