WATKINS GLEN, N.Y (August 13, 2001) -- Matt Kenseth and the DEWALT Racing team started the Global Crossing at the Glen in 38th position but managed to salvage a 23rd place finish.

In practice sessions throughout the weekend, Kenseth appeared to be one of the stronger cars. Changes to the car before qualifying may have attributed to the disappointing run. Kenseth, along with crew chief Robbie Reiser knew the potential of the No. 17 car, so they worked up until race morning to make it better.

When the green flag dropped, Kenseth was in the back of the pack. Reiser decided to use pit strategy and since the team could go 34 laps on fuel, they decided to forego pitting early on the first caution laps and stayed on the track for position. Kenseth then brought the car to the attention of his team on lap 28.

The car was tight as the race wore on so the team made attempts to free it up. Fuel mileage and long green flag runs, Kenseth took the lead on lap 68, earning five bonus points. Even though a caution flag flew when Kenseth was in the second place, he could not 'catch a break', as his brakes and battery were not functioning properly.

Kenseth was running in the top 20 when he was hit from behind with six laps to go. Matt brought the car to the team's attention so they could assess the damage. They changed tires and sent Kenseth back into the field. The No. 17 finished the 90 lap event in the 23rd place position.

"We didn't hit it very good this weekend in the DEWALT car," said Kenseth after the race. "We pretty much just rode around all day and tried to stay out of the accidents. We ended up getting into an accident anyway but not bad enough for us to get knocked out of the race."
