Being a one mile track, there were only two rounds in this weekend's qualifying session, as opposed to three at the larger venues. Only 43 teams entered this race so no one was sent home.

Round One

Greg Biffle was the first to post a time in qualifying and he immediately broke the old track record. 24 cars in total were able to accomplish the same feat. It was a fairly uneventful round with Reed Sorenson lightly brushing the wall early on.

With less than 90 seconds remaining, A.J. Allmendinger bumped Dale Earnhardt Jr. from the top twelve (only twelve fastest advance). Jr. went back out in the closing moments in an effort to regain a place inside the top twelve, but it was to no avail. The difference was a mere 2/1000ths between Allmendinger and Earnhardt.

The twelve drivers who did advance - Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin, Jeff Gordon, Brad Keselowski, Brian Vickers, Kyle Larson, Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, Greg Biffle, and A.J. Allmendinger

Round Two

The second and final round was all Brad Keselowski. He was the first to hit the track and no one was able to match his time (21.892). Logano, Johnson, and (Kyle) Busch all came close, but none were able to knock him off. For Brad Keselowski, this is his fifth career Sprint Cup pole and Team Penske's 97th (and their 11th at Dover). Kyle Busch will start alongside him on the front row. The margin was just under 9/100ths of a second.
