At the checkered flag, Harvick was fourth. On pit road, he lost several positions on almost every single pit stop. He dropped from third to 13th on the first stop and then fourth to 11th on the second.
Towards the end of the race, he was able to sold serve, but wasn't in a position to fight for the win.
After the race, he did not try to conceal his disappointment.
“I’m disgusted to tell you the truth. It’s the same thing every week. We just make mistake after mistake and until we clean that up we don’t have a chance to win races putting ourselves in a hole every time we make a mistake. It sucks because the cars are plenty fast, but we are just not executing.”
"No way we can win a championship"
This isn't the first time pit road misfortune has proved costly for the No. 4 team, derailing an otherwise stellar day. That's a fact not lost on the 2014 series champion.
“We just have to perform better. We under execute as a team on a weekly basis and got to do a better job. The Jimmy John’s Chevrolet cars are always fast, but we always do something wrong.”
When questioned about solutions to rectify the pit road issues, Harvick said it will have to come from the powers that be at Stewart-Haas Racing.
"It’s really going to have to come from the top. I mean they are going to have to clamp down ... There is no way we can win a championship like this unless they straighten some of this stuff out.”
