Kevin Harvick fastest in Saturday's first practice at Phoenix

Harvick, who will start on the pole for Sunday’s Cam-Am 500, led the way in the 45-minute practice with an average lap speed of 134.710 mph.

Kyle Larson was second (134.680 mph) and Brad Keselowski was third (134.479 mph). Kyle Busch and Ryan Blaney completed the top-five.

Harvick has nine career NASCAR Cup Series victories at Phoenix, including this year’s spring race. Following a midweek penalty from NASCAR, Harvick can still make the Championship 4 at Homestead through points but a win would again guarantee him the opportunity to race for the title next week.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Chase Elliott, Austin Dillon, Jimmie Johnson, Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr.

About 16 minutes into the session, Tanner Berryhill spun through Turn 2 to bring a brief halt to the on-track action. Practice resumed shortly afterwards.

Six drivers – D.J. Kennington, Ty Dillon, J.J. Yeley, Johnson, Timmy Hill and Berryhill – had to sit out the final 15 minutes of practice as all were late to pre-qualifying inspection on Friday.
