Nine drivers broke the 200 mile per hour mark in the first Sprint Cup practice at Michigan International Speedway on Friday.
Kevin Harvick led the charge with a lap of 202.492 mph, followed by Joey Logano, who was 0.156-seconds behind the No. 4 Chevy. Last weekend’s Pocono Raceway winner Martin Truex Jr. was third (201.157 mph) followed by Denny Hamlin (200.921 mph) and Jeff Gordon (200.781 mph).
Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne, Carl Edwards, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Ryan Blaney rounded out the top 10.
The No. 41 Haas Automation team was forced to go to a back-up car on Friday after Kurt Busch grazed the Turn 2 wall at Michigan International Speedway 50 minutes into the first practice.

“Went down in there, it was a little bit twitchier when it turned in,” Busch radioed to crew chief Tony Gibson. “Then it went full-locked left. Sorry, the car is pretty much ruined.”
Busch’s best lap was 198.769mph after four laps. Members from the Nos. 4 and 10 crew assisted Busch’s crew set up the back up car in an effort to get the No. 41 Chevy back on the track. However, practice ended early due to rain. Busch was 17th on the speed chart.
