Busch presented President Obama with one of his actual helmets he raced with during the 2015 season. The POTUS applauded him on his extraordinary comeback after breaking his leg and missed the first third of the season.
The outgoing president also had quite a sense of humor during his speech on Busch's first title.
"Kyle, I hear your ride is outside. Most years when NASCAR comes to town, I make a joke when looking at the car, full of longing and feeling kind of wistful and trying to get Secret Service to let me take a spin, but this year's different. In a few months, I can actually do anything I want. So Kyle, we're going to talk. I'm not sure though that Michelle (Obama) is going to let me drive a car with a whole bunch of M&Ms on it. She may want carrots or something," he said, alluding to the first lady's push for a healthier America.
He then added, "There were some people who thought we were going to see a Bush back here in the White House this year, but they didn't know it was going to be Kyle."
Busch is currently pursuing a second consecutive championship and entered the 2016 Chase as the top seed. He heads to Dover (an elimination race) third in the standings, 33 points above the cut line.
