Kyle Busch's winning streak comes to crashing halt at Bristol

Kyle Busch’s run of two consecutive Sprint Cup Series victories came to a crashing halt Sunday at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.

Busch, who finished second in Saturday’s Xfinity Series race, ran into trouble early in Sunday’s Food City 500 (lap 52 of 500) with a blown right-front tire which Goodyear officials attributed to a melted bead due to excessive brake heat.

Busch continued to fight back, moving back into the Top 10, but was twice penalized by NASCAR for speeding on pit road, sending him to the rear of the field.

On Lap 259, the right-front of Busch’s No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota again blew which sent him into the wall with excessive damage. He was credited with 36th place at the time of his accident.

"I just kept getting tighter in the long run, not sure why that was. We had a really great car yesterday and we were fastest in practice. I felt really good about things for today. I guess it wasn’t meant to be," Busch said.

"I hate it for all these guys, all the work and effort. Not a day we were hoping for. We had a really fast car. We drove up from the back to the front a couple times and showed what we were made of, but obviously it doesn’t matter when you’re in the garage.”

In the season’s first seven races, Busch had two wins and finished worse than fourth just once (25th at Fontana, Calif.).
