Larson and Stewart pace Friday practice sessions
Hendrick powered Chevrolet's led the way in both NASCAR Sprint Cup practice sessions Friday.
The two practice sessions that took place Friday at Kansas Speedway went without incident. The first practice session was led by Kyle Larson (189.076mph), with Tony Stewart ending up on top in 'Happy Hour' with a speed of 192.809mph.
Larson, Almirola, Bowyer, DBlaney, Kahne, Biffle, Harvick, Logano, Gordon, and Johnson paced the opening practice of the day. Rookie Kyle Larson and Kasey Kahne were the only drivers who ran over 60 laps with Kahne leading that category at 63 laps on the board.
The second practice gives a better indication for who will be quick in qualifying. Tony Stewart led the way for Stewart-Haas Racing, followed by Bowyer, Johnson, Larson, Harvick, Gordon, Vickers, Newman, Allgaier, and Stenhouse Jr. With this practice being all about qualifying preparations for most of the field, only two drivers ran more than 20 laps.
Just one driver will be sent home in this field of 44, and qualifying might turn into a battle between father and son. Veteran Dave Blaney and son Ryan Blaney (attempted first Cup race) are both go-or-go homers and have the least amount of owner's points, compared to the rest of the field.
NOTE The last two Kansas races were won from pole position (Matt Kenseth and Kevin Harvick).
