Casey Atwood
Are you looking forward to returning to NHIS?
"This is one my favorite tracks because it really suits my driving style. I almost won a Busch race up there once. We didn't have a good run there earlier this year because the track was coming up real bad. Once you got out of the groove it became real difficult to drive. Everybody was complaining about it. I think the track surface played a major role in how we ran in July because it wasn't that bad in practice. If they get the track back the way it used to be, I would expect that we would have a good run in the Sirius Dodge."
How do you think the Sirius Dodge will be this weekend?
"We're taking the same car we ran there in July. It's a new car that Tony (Furr) built for that race; unfortunately we didn't get a chance to see how it performed. We should be pretty good this time around, though. We've had a couple of really good runs here lately, but just haven't had the finishes to prove it. This team's got a lot of momentum going and our confidence is up. We're due for a good finish, and I'm confident we can pull it off in New Hampshire this week."
What's the key to getting around at New Hampshire?
"It's hard to pass at New Hampshire, but if you can get your car to turn good in the center and come off good, you can pass. You've got to have your car dialed in. Qualifying will be important, as always. Track position is really, really important at New Hampshire because it's so hard to pass."
New Hampshire Stats & Facts
* Atwood has three previous Winston Cup starts at New Hampshire International Speedway. During the New England 300 in July, Atwood started 35th. Two separate on-track incidents spoiled his chances for a strong finish. Atwood brought the Sirius Dodge home in 36th.
* The one-mile oval has always been on Atwood's list of favorites because of its flat grade and short length. Atwood has finished 21st or better in five of his six Winston Cup and Busch Grand National races in at NHIS.
* In July 2001, Atwood finished 12th after starting 27th and leading for 13 laps. In the rescheduled race last November, Atwood recorded another top-20 finish (16th) after starting 32nd.
* In his three BGN races Atwood finished 21st in 1998, 5th in 1999 and 7th in 2000.
