LOUDON, N.H. (Sept. 19, 2004) -- By not finding the right balance for his No. 10 Valvoline Chevrolet, Scott Riggs was unable to mount a charge in Sunday's Sylvania 300.
The Bahama, N.C. native posted a 26th-place finish in his second career Cup start at New Hampshire International Speedway.
"I don't want to make excuses, but with practice being canceled due to rain Saturday it really hurt us," said Riggs. " I do understand that all of the teams were in the same boat, but being a rookie team it put us at a bigger disadvantage."
Riggs said his car was tight from the beginning, which cost him valuable track position on the 1.058-mile oval.
"We tried freeing up the car but it just stayed tight for the majority of the race," explained Riggs. "We never could get anything going. It's a disappointing result because we know we're better."
Riggs, whose 30th starting position was based on car owner's points due to qualifying being washed out Friday, did pick up track position as the race went on, but couldn't stablize the car's balance.
"We made a lot of changes to fix the problem, but never got it right," said Riggs. "There were times when the car ran pretty good, but it wasn't consistent. We just have to pick up the pieces and make amends in Dover next week."
Speaking of the next race, Riggs and the Valvoline team posted it's best finish (fifth) of the season at the Dover June race.
