Marlin Has Transmission Problems In Richmond
No. 40 Coors Light Dodge finishes in 32nd place

RICHMOND, Va. (September 8, 2001) -- The No. 40 Coors Light Dodge Intrepid R/T driven by Sterling Marlin finished 32nd in the Chevrolet Monte Carlo 400 at Richmond International Raceway. Marlin moved to fifth overall in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series championship points standings.

The No. 40 Coors Light Dodge began the race in third position. Marlin took over the lead on lap 90. Four laps later, during a caution period, the Coors Light team brought in the No. 40 car for four tires and fuel. As Marlin tried to pull out of his pit stall, his transmission failed.

"We had a real good car, but we tore up the transmission," Marlin said."We pitted and Schrader kind of stopped short and blocked me in. I was going to back up. I put it in reverse and it wouldn't go anywhere. We stripped something in the gears. We had a good car. It was really good on long runs. I wish it had stayed green all the way, but that's just part of racing. We'll get them next week."

Lee McCall, crew chief of the No. 40 Coors Light Dodge, was looking for a top-5 finish in Richmond.

"We ended up tearing the first gear out of the transmission trying to get going after we got blocked in our pit stall,"said McCall."We brought the car in and changed transmissions and the car was fine after that. We had an awesome car tonight and could have come home with a win but we tore up our transmission and unfortunately those things happen."

Next on the schedule for the No. 40 Coors Light team is the New Hampshire 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway on Sunday, Sept. 16.
