Martinsville has been a good track for the Skoal Bandit Racing team in the past. In their last three visits to Martinsville with Kenny at the wheel, they have three top-10 finishes in as many starts. Then, the Skoal Bandit Racing team went to victory lane with Harry Gant in 1991 after he got wrecked and came back to win his fourth straight.
At the Goody's Headache Powder 500 at Martinsville Speedway in April, Schrader qualified sixth, but rain postponed the event until Monday. When the event got under way on Monday, the No. 33 team knew that the car would be a little off since the rain washed all of the rubber away on Sunday. The No. 33 raced in the top 10 for the entire race and went on to finish 10th. That tenth-place finish advanced the Skoal Bandit Racing team three positions in the point standings.
In last weekend's MBNA Gold 400 at Dover Downs International Speedway, Ken Schrader and the Skoal Bandit Racing team were gaining positions on the track when they dropped a cylinder 200 laps into the event. Just a few laps later, the No. 33 lost another cylinder and was forced to retire to the garage, finishing 39th. It was only the second motor failure for the team in 58 starts. The Skoal Bandit Racing team will utilize "Sam Bass" this weekend. It is the same car that competed at both New Hampshire International Speedway events and at Richmond in June. In three starts, "Sam Bass" has one top-five and one top-10 finish. This race car was involved in an accident at NHIS in August after qualifying third. The Skoal Bandit Racing team rebuilt the car for the last short track race of the season.
