Matt Kenseth tops final Kansas practice, Kurt Busch finds trouble

The polesitter for the Hollywood Casino 400 topped the speed chart with a lap of 186.361mph in final practice.

Kenseth, who won from the pole with Joe Gibbs Racing in 2013, is looking for his third win on the 1.5-mile track on Sunday.

“It’s been a good track for me in the past, but you never know what’s going to happen,” Kenseth said. “As you saw last week, anything can happen in these races. If it happens to someone else, it can happen to you.

“We’re going to go out there and race hard. It’s a good start. Hopefully we can keep our Toyota up there somewhere and have a good run.”

Kyle Larson was second-quick with a lap of 185.842mph followed by Chasers Kurt Busch (185.797mph), Chase Elliott (185.752mph), Kyle Busch (185.535mph), Austin Dillon (185.491mph) and Martin Truex Jr. (185.261mph).

Tony Stewart (184.919mph) posted the eighth fastest speed in single lap runs with Brad Keselowski (184.913mph), Jamie McMurray (184.868mph), Ryan Blaney (184.849mph) and Car Edwards (184.843mph) completed the top 12.

Thirty-two minutes into final practice, Kevin Harvick scraped the Turn 4 wall. He was completing his 22nd lap before the incident. Harvick was 13th quick with a lap of 184.740mph, but led the ten consecutive lap averages (183.740mph).

Kurt Busch blew a right front tire coming to cross flags and slid sideways on into the front stretch grass on his 58th lap — the most circuits completed by a driver during the 50-minute session.

“The whole center of the nose is punched in on it,” the No. 41 radioed after the incident. They are going to a backup car. See below for a photo of the damage:
