Michael Waltrip has a short list of drivers he'd like to put into the third Michael Waltrip Incorporated Racing Toyota sponsored by Burger King next season. At the top of his list is No. 19 Evernham Dodge driver Jeremy Mayfield.

"We haven't been good friends, but I've never had a cross word with Jeremy in my whole career and it's the same way with Dale (Jarrett)," commented Waltrip. "We've always co-existed and done it in a respectable way."

While Waltrip assured that no formal offer had been discussed, that he had extended an invitation to Mayfield to discuss the possibility should his tenure at Evernham Motorsports end.

"I reckon there is a lot of stuff going on in his world, just like there is in mine," Waltrip said of Mayfield. "When he gets it all figured out, I'm sure we'll talk.

"It's more the ball is in his court. He knows that he would be somebody who we would love to talk to about driving our car and that's all we've done so far. We've told him that we heard rumors he was moving along and if that was the case, we would love to talk to him about it."

It has been rumored over the last several weeks that No. 38 Robert Yates Racing driver Elliott Sadler has been in discussions with Evernham to take over the No. 19 Dodge. Mayfield made some harsh comments to the media last weekend in Chicago about team owner Ray Evernham's commitment to the team that he later took back after Evernham arrived in Chicago.

Sadler denied that he has had any discussions with Evernham or anyone within the organization.
