Mayfield sets the pace at Texas Happy Hour

Jeremy Mayfield, piloting the No. 19 Evernham Dodge, posted the hottest lap during final practice for Nextel Cup teams at Texas Motor Speedway. The lap of 186.483 mph surpassed the time of Dave Blaney who scored the second best time with a 186.188 mph.

"We'll work on the setup tomorrow and get ready for a good race on Sunday," said Mayfield.

Elliott Sadler's lap of 185.414 mph, secured the third quickest time. Sadler's team has rebounded from a lackluster qualifying effort yesterday, they start 19th on Sunday.

"I've got the best pit crew in the business and they're gonna make up some positions for me," said Sadler of his starting spot for Sunday's event.

A lap of 185.287 mph puts Greg Biffle on the leader board in fourth.

Kasey Kahne seems to be bouncing back from an incident with Jamie McMurray last week at Bristol. He charted the fifth fastest lap, with a 185.052 mph.

"We were all disappointed with what happened last week," said Kahne. "But we came back here and qualified third. I'm looking forward to Sunday. It's awesome to come to Texas. It's a great racetrack."

Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Joe Nemechek, Bill Elliott, Kevin Harvick and Ryan Newman completed the top ten.
