Michael Annett and the No. 7 Pilot Flying J Chevrolet SS race team for Tommy Baldwin Racing head to Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, Va. this weekend, looking to continue a trend that has emerged in the first five races of the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.
Annett is coming off of a weekend in which he scored a career-best 19th-place finish at Auto Club Speedway after gaining 10 positions in the final 30 laps, recovering from a late-race pit stop penalty. It continues a trend of finish improvement - he earned results of 37th, 34th, 29th, 26th and 19th - dating back to Daytona.
A Rookie of the Year candidate in the Cup Series, Annett is making his first ever start at Martinsville Speedway. He tested at the 0.526-mile last week in advance of this weekend's race.Kevin "Bono" Manion, Annett's crew chief, oversaw cars driven by Jamie McMurray that scored a pole in 2011 and earned consecutive top-10 finishes in the two 2013 races.
Michael Annett quote:
"Our test at Martinsville last week went really well. Since the Nationwide Series doesn't race there, we used the track time just like we'll use our practices this weekend; as a learning opportunity. 500 laps there is a long time. It's a long race, and fortunately we've been really good at adjusting to the race. If we can get better as the race goes on, we'll be in really good shape."
