Smith, Furniture Row Racing Confident For Michigan Rebound

DENVER, Colo. (Aug. 11, 2010) -- Regan Smith says he has some unfinished business to take care at this weekend's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway (MIS). The Furniture Row Racing driver left the June race at the two-mile oval with an unsettling feeling.

After qualifying 23rd for the 400-mile race at MIS, Smith charged forward and was running in 15th-place when he and Marcos Ambrose got tangled on Lap 19 of 200. Though the incident resulted in heavy damage to Smith's No. 78 Chevrolet, he managed to battle back and finish a respectable 23rd.

"We have our notes from Michigan and feel that we can get the finish that escaped us in the June race," said the 26-year-old Smith. "I remember how strong our Furniture Row Chevy was at the beginning of the race and how much fun it was to pass on the wide track. We're looking for the same type of performance but with a much better finish."

Smith and the No. 78 Colorado-based team are coming off a strong performance but disappointing ending at last Sunday's Cup race at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International. Smith was running in 17th place when the track bar mount broke with five laps remaining on the 2.45-mile road circuit. He finished 34th.

"We're just going to forget about last week and keep on plugging," said Smith. "It's pointless to look back and think about the what ifs. Our goal each week is to run a clean race -- no accidents, no pit road miscues, no mechanical malfunctions. We're confident that if we can achieve this goal we will get the deserved finishes."

Sunday's CARFAX 400 at MIS will be Smith's fourth Cup race at MIS. His 23rd finish in June was his best; in his two races at the Michigan track in 2008 he finished 32nd and 29th.

"I come to each race saying that this is going to be the start of a new beginning for our Furniture Row team," stated Smith. "We've made progress there's no question about that. We just want to see our progress rewarded with the proper finishes."
