Team 48 Michigan International Speedway Preview
Lowe's Chevrolet driver Jimmie Johnson and the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series travel to Michigan International Speedway for Sunday's 400-mile race. The 2006 Nextel Cup Champion finished 42nd in Sunday's race in Pocono and is fourth in the 2007 points race trailing Jeff Gordon by 305 points. Johnson's four victories equal Gordon's as the most for any driver in 2007. Johnson will drive a Chevrolet Monte Carlo at Michigan this weekend.
DRIVER JIMMIE JOHNSON QUOTES:
MICHIGAN: "It just always puts on great racing. It's a track we can always count on to see good side-by-side racing and lots of grooves and lots of action. I'm excited to go back. I know it's a favorite for a lot of the drivers. There's so much room to race. If you car is not handling great you can move around. But more than anything if you've got a good car and you can get some track position, you can get outside and start passing people."
CHANCES FOR VICTORY: "We've had some decent, competitive runs at Michigan, but nothing where we've won. Hopefully we can change that. But it's been a track that has challenged us a little bit. We've had a lot of success at Fontana, but haven't been able to have the same success at Michigan. It's one of the tracks that we really want to improve on and we're focusing a lot on and putting a lot of effort on it."
LETDOWN BY NOT GOING TO VICTORY LANE: "There are certain tracks that we excel at and you look at those on the calendar every year and look forward to them and hope that you can get a win there. When you leave those tracks, close but without a trophy, you are like, 'Man, did I miss an opportunity this year' because that is one of my tracks, that is where I have success.
FATHER'S DAY: "Whenever we go to Michigan, Father's Day is right there. It's cool to see all the fathers that are there for their sons. I've had my dad there for a lot of years. I'm grateful for everything he's done and all the sacrifices he's made to give me my start and get me racing."
