Wanted crew chief/car owner........ours has gone to delive a BABY

Ken Schrader's crew makes a desperate - and humorous - call for help after car owner/crew chief Andy Petree left for home because his wife, Patrice, had gone into labor.

ROGER PENSKE'S NASCAR team may be in for a major change if Don Miller, its general manager, retires at the end of the season. Penske, who owns majority interest in the team, may put Jay Signori or Jon Erickson in charge of the operation next season, according to sources. Signori, a long time Penske man, has run the International Race of Champions for years. Erickson, Pontiac's former racing manager, is running Felix Sabates' three-car team this season. There has been speculation in the Penske camp that Rusty Wallace himself might move to another team, perhaps Robert Yates'. (Mike Mulhern, JournalNow)

THE FAMILY of famed fire-fighter Red Adair has expressed an interest in starting a new Winston Cup team, and Don Taylor, General Motors' NASCAR field manager, has been asked to help launch the operation. Taylor was noncommittal when asked if he'd be willing to leave GM's engineering department to run the team, which would be headquartered in the old Bobby Allison shops behind Charlotte Motor Speedway. However, it's no secret that a number of Detroit factory engineers have been getting lucrative job offers from NASCAR teams over the past few years, and more and more of them are accepting and moving to North Carolina. JULIUS ERVING'S NASCAR team plans to add six fabricators this week, to start preparing cars for next season. There is still no word on a prospective driver. (Mike Mulhern, JournalNow)

STEVE PARK, who drives Dale Earnhardt's cars and who is expected to be named this week officially as Earnhardt's Winston Cup driver next season, outran Jimmy Spencer to win yesterday's Busch 200 by five lengths. Park and Spencer used good gas mileage to handle Mark Martin, who appeared to have the fastest car. Park and Spencer both went the final 132 miles without stopping. Crew chief Tony Eury said that the gamble wasn't really a gamble: ''We worked on the fuel cell more than on the car because we lost this race on fuel mileage here last year.'' Park has nine top 10s in his last 14 Busch starts. ''I don't think you know how it is to race against Jimmy Spencer when he's racing for a win. He had me a little nervous. But he raced me clean,'' Park said. (Mike Mulhern, JournalNow)
