Morgan-McClure Watkins Glen race notes

The No. 4 Kodak MAX Film Monte Carlo was scheduled to hit the track for qualifying efforts in third position. However, a last minute shifter change and transmission repair moved the Morgan-McClure entry into a later qualifying spot.

Kevin Lepage turned in a time that placed the familiar yellow car 33rd on the grid.

By a caution on lap 18 in Sunday's race, Lepage had progressed 7 positions to 26th. On lap 19, Scott Eggleston, crew chief, made a decision to pit for four tires and fuel. When the race restarted on lap 21, the team was in a solid 23rd.

On lap 29, the leaders pitted, leaving the No. 4 on track in 7th. On lap 33, the team's strategies paid off when the car was in 4th. Then on lap 37, Lepage moved into 3rd and stayed there for 13 laps.

Lepage radioed the team on lap 51 with bad news about the brakes. He said they were spongy. The team pitted in a costly, but necessary, stop, having to refill brake fluid and bleed the brakes. The brakes had boiled. Unfortunately, bad luck struck the Kodak Team again, leaving the team 2 laps down at the end of the Global Crossing at the Glen.

Larry McClure:
"We had a great run going today. It was nice to see the Kodak MAX Film Monte Carlo up front. The team worked really hard. It is a shame the brakes failed us. They just boiled over, we think. It would have been nice to see us finish there where we were running in third."

Kevin Lepage:
"Scott and the guys did a great job in preparing the car from practice on Saturday to the race. The car was awesome. The brakes just became spongy. You cannot drive a road course without any brakes. I have not had that much fun driving a race in a long time. Larry and the guys are going to make a road course racer out of me yet. It was an exciting day."
