NASCAR levied a number of penalties on race teams for failing inspection at Texas Motor Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway.
Due to the weather at Bristol last weekend, some of the penalties were deferred including 15-minute holds for Denny Hamlin, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Chris Buescher, Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. for failing race inspection.
Ty Dillon’s No. 13 team failed the Laser Inspection Station three times and will be held for 15 minutes and lost his pit selection for Sunday. AJ Allmendinger’s team failed the LIS four times and will lose 30 minutes of practice — and his pit stall selection. The No. 43 team failed template exception twice forcing Aric Almirola to miss 15 minutes of practice on Friday.
Austin Dillon’s team failed LIS five times and will not only lose 30 minutes of practice and pit selection, but the No. 3 Chevy will start at the rear of the field for Sunday’s race. This is the first time a driver has been sent to the back for the start of a race this season.
Joey Logano and Matt Kenseth will both serve 30-minute practice holds for swerving on the track following the Food City 500. Swerving the car resets the off-set to neutral.
