Furniture Row Racing will return to a one-car team in 2018

In an interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio’s Claire B. Lang Thursday night’s “Dialed In” show, team owner Barney Visser said he has already sold the charter of his No. 77 Toyota team to another NASCAR organization.

“It’s being sold right now, but we think there are going to be a lot of charters on the market,” Visser said. “For now, we’re not going to try to run the thing. I just don’t want to run a place-holder in a charter kind of race car.

“I just don’t want to do that. That’s not in our DNA and I don’t want to put guys through that. If we put the car on the track, it’s going to be capable of going to the front.”

Visser declined to disclose to what organization he sold the No. 77 charter but said he was confident he could obtain another charter if he wished to return to a two-car organization.

“It’s not a big deal right now,” he said. “It’s not a big deal to us.”

FRR expanded to a two-car team this season, getting rookie Erik Jones on loan from Joe Gibbs Racing to run its No. 77 along with Martin Truex Jr. in its No. 78.

Jones just missed the playoffs and has four top-five and 11 top-10 finishes and one pole in the first 26 races. After the 16-driver playoff field was set, he is now 18th in the series standings. Jones is returning to JGR next season to drive its No. 20 Toyota, replacing Matt Kenseth.
