NASCAR clarifies guidelines for at-track team rosters

NASCAR clarified the guidelines for the new team roster requirements on Thursday.

In Section 7.7 of the NASCAR Rule Book the sanctioning body outlined the regulations for team members at the track.

Team Rosters must be submitted by each team, OEM and engine builder before each race. Each team must fill out an Event Roster Submission form—with the member’s name, position, affiliation and hometown—prior to the garage opening posted on the official entry blank. Members under the Exempt Categories do not need to submit forms.

Team Rosters are broken down into five categories:

Organizational Level—Competition directors, team managers, technical directors and IT specialists. Teams with one or two cars will be allowed three organizational members. Teams with three or four cars are allowed four managers.

Road Crew—Includes but not limited to the crew chief, car chief, engineers, mechanics, shock specialists, tire specialists, aero specialists, spotters, engine tuners, pit coach and utility positions. Teams are allowed 12 members under this category.

Pit Crew—Five members including tire changers, tire carriers, jackmen and fuelers.

Submitted Exempt—Driver, transporter drivers, trainers/masseuse. (Unlimited).

Exempt—Team owners (if not under already under competition, business and marketing executives, public relations personnel, sponsor services and guest. (Unlimited).

For Teams participating in both the Clash and Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway, four additional members will be allowed during the Clash/500 qualifying weekend.

Engine builders are allowed one representative for every two engines. Engine builders and their business executives are exempt if not contributing under the competition category.

OEM may have five representatives at each race. Manufacturers business executives are exempt if not contributing under the competition category.

Teams may make roster substitutions post-deadline at NASCAR’s discretion, but the change must be approved by the Series Managing Direction. In-race changes must be approved by NASCAR and must be a crew member previously listed on the team roster for that event. With the exception of the crew chief, roster positions may be shared among organizations and technical alliances if the member’s name appears on both team’s rosters.

Any team member with multiple roles must be listed under each category. Teams will be allowed to bring an additional utility member at road courses and Indianapolis.

Teams/OEMs not in compliance with the roster rules are subject to penalty under Section 17—Points and Point Fund.

Road Crew, Pit Crew and Submitted Exempt team members must don proper patch identification as displayed below.
