Uncooperative weather provided teams only about three hours of track time in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series open test Wednesday at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Originally, the test was to run 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET but was extended into the night when rain continuously interrupted the session throughout the day.

Ten Cup teams took part in the test in preparation for the Nov. 22 Ford 400, in which the 2015 series champion will be crowned.
Joey Logano, who was one of the four drivers competing for the championship in last season’s championship race, said the shortened test still presented the opportunity to learn “new things.”
“A lot of things we can’t typically learn on a normal race weekend. We can put data on our race cars and be able to really dissect what each part and piece does,” the Team Penske driver said.
“So overall, it’s key for us to get the most out of this as we don’t have (testing) very often. And, obviously, coming down here to Homestead – it can be the most important race of the year.”
For Martin Truex Jr., who is currently enjoying his best season as a fulltime Cup driver, Wednesday’s test was hopefully a prelude to a chance at winning his first championship.
“This is going to be, obviously, a huge race. It’s the biggest race of the year if you really think about what it all comes down to so we’re planning on making that final four with our Furniture Row Chevrolet and hopefully if we get to do that we’ll be ready,” he said.
“We’re just trying to learn all we can to get down here and be prepared for that, and hopefully we’ll be one of those guys.”
In addition to Logano and Truex, taking part in Wednesday’s test were: Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kyle Larson, reigning series champion Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, Trevor Bayne, Ty Dillon (driving for Ryan Newman’s team), Denny Hamlin and Ryan Blaney.
