Newman tears into Stewart: "We all know he has issues"

The race had returned to green on Lap 360 when two laps later, Tony Stewart and Ryan Newman battled for 10th-place. The pair first made contact in Turn 1 and the feud continued on the backstretch. Stewart came down on Newman and as the former teammates wrecked along the inside wall the drivers collected Chris Buescher in the process. 

"We got in it but we're still rolling," said Buescher, who has to finish in the top 30 in the standings to transfer into the Chase.

The wreck swept up into Turn 3 and captured Carl Edwards, Dylan Lupton, Brian Scott and David Ragan. 

“I guess he thought he was in a sprint car again and couldn’t control his anger,” said Newman, who watched his Chase hopes fizzle with the wreck. He also suggested that his former teammate is "bipolar."

Stewart did not wish to speak with the media after exiting the infield care center.

The accident ignited the 15th caution — tying the previous record at RIR.

He later added, "He has got issues. We all know he’s got issues. He proved it again tonight.  I was clearly inside of him getting into Turn 1, he cut across my nose, I was on the brakes, on the apron and I hit him coming off of Turn 2, but only because I got loose, I was on the apron.  The next thing I know he is driving across my nose on the back straightaway because he’s Tony Stewart and he thinks he owns everything.  It’s unfortunate, but shouldn’t expect anything less from him.”

Newman was then asked about the lack of respect he was given, considering his precarious position in the Chase.

“Yeah he seemed to forget that.  I remember when he has had a lot of stuff on the line and he gets the give and take, but he has never been really one to give back much.”

Denny Hamlin was the race leader at the time of the wreck.
