It's a sorta slow news day...... ========== Jayski assured me the car he's sponsoring is entered in the Comdata 200 (to be run Saturday, October 18th), not the Manheim Auctions All American 400 (to be run Sunday, October 19th) as I reported. Same racetrack, different races. The Comdata 200 is going to be televised on TNN at 4:00 edt, according to Jayski. Major brain fade on my part. Thanks, Jay. ========== Pit Road Rules, from the 1997 NASCAR Winston Cup Rule Book, pages 19 and 20, courtesy of Amy H., who was nice enough to fax me the appropriate pages. 9-15 Pit Road Procedures During Race -

A. When following the pace car under a caution flag, drivers must maintain their position in relation to other cars in the field or as otherwise directed by NASCAR Officials, and are not permitted to pass other competitors when preparing to enter pit road. B. Cars may not be pushed past the flagman at the end of the pit road. After a race is underway, cars may be started by hand pushing in the pit area only, but under no circumstances is any car to be pushed onto the race track from the pit area. Cars may not receive any assistance after the white flag has been displayed, except cars making regular pit stops. C. When a car runs over an air hose or any other equipment, it must return to its assigned pit for inspection at the request of NASCAR Officials. All equipment used to service the car must be removed from the car prior to the car leaving its assigned pit area. D. When pit stops are made for tire changes, all lug nuts must be fully tightened before the car leaves the assigned pit area. When a NASCAR Official detects a violation, the car must return to its assigned pit area for inspection. E. Unless otherwise authorized, when making a pit stop, only seven (7) pit crew members will be allowed over the pit wall. Once a pit crew member steps over the pit wall into the car servicing area, he/she becomes one of the seven (7) designated crew members for the remainder of the pit stop. Once a crew member has stepped into the car servicing area during a routine pit stop (a routine pit stop is a normal pit stop in the assigned pit stall for fuel and/or tires and/or minor adjustments), if he/she returns over the wall to the equipment side, he/she may not be replaced by another crew member, and he/she may not cross the pit wall again for the remainder of that pit stop. F. When gasoline is added during a pit stop, one of the seven (7) crew members must catch any overflowing fuel into a NASCAR approved container. The gasoline overflow crew member must be in position to catch any overflowing fuel at all times fuel is being added to the car. G. Manufacturers' personnel will not be permitted over the wall at any time during the running of a race. H. All major car repairs must be performed behind the pit wall. I. Only one (1) jack can be used for any pit stop involving tire changes. The same jack must be used when tires are changed on the left and right side during the same pit stop. In the event a car falls off a jack, a second jack can be used on the same side to facilitate use of the first jack. J. Only two (2) air wrenches may be used to change tires during a routine pit stop. Both air wrenches must be returned to the equipment side of the pit wall once tire changing has been completed and prior to the car leaving the pit area. K. Air supply tanks and pressure regulators for all air guns must remain on the equipment site of the pit wall at all times. ========== Mike Irwin (mailto:mike@nascarfans.com) NASCAR Fans _______________________________________
