It was brought to my attention that there is a difference between the NASCAR Online version of the '98 schedule and the one put out by me from Charlotte.Com this morning.

*** - NASCAR ONLINE HAS IT THIS WAY: Oct. 25 - Phoenix International Raceway Nov. 1 - North Carolina Motor Speedway

*** - CHARLOTTE.COM HAS IT THIS WAY: Oct. 25 - North Carolina Motor Speedway Nov. 1 - Phoenix International Raceway

When in doubt, I'd trust the NASCAR Online version first.

Sorry for any confusion this may have caused. Thanks to Laymond (and others) for calling this to my attention. ===== For you Rusty fans with web access, there's a good article about him on the NASCAR Online site at:

http://www.nascar.com/news/97news/00478393.html ===== More than 30 full-time teams, which in sum have won three championships and 63 races, are making preparations for the 1998 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, which opens Jan. 18 with the Chevy Trucks Challenge at Walt Disney World Speedway.

In preparation for that opener, Jack Sprague, winner of the tour's 1997 championship; 1996 champion Ron Hornaday, the three-year-old circuit's all-time race and money winner; and Jay Sauter, who drives for Richard Childress Racing's 1995 title team, are among drivers who'll test their 1998 equipment Dec. 15-16 at the one-mile superspeedway near the gates of Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom.

The test follows, by two days, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series' third annual championship awards banquet in San Francisco, Calif. Coverage of the Fairmont Hotel ceremonies will be broadcast by ESPN2 (5 p.m. EST, Dec. 21; re-air at 3 a.m. EST Dec. 23). (NASCAR Online) ====== There's a good "year in review" article by Bill Weber on the NASCAR Online site at:

http://www.nascar.com/news/97news/00478166.html ===== Brian Whitesell, chief engineer on the No. 24 DuPont Refinishes/Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, which Jeff Gordon drove to this year's NASCAR Winston Cup Series championship, won the Western Auto Mechanic of the Year award for the 1997 season.

Whitesell's stellar season included 10 victories, one Busch Pole, 22 top-5 finishes and 23 top-10 efforts. The average starting position of the DuPont Chevrolet was 9.4 and the average finishing spot was 9.5. The Rainbow Warriors won a record total of $4,201,227 during the 1997 season.
