Here's an interesting UNCONFIRMED (by me, anyway) rumor:

One of our readers has a brother who works for Ford Motor Company. Here's his quote:

"...the other day he (our subscriber's brother) told me (the subscriber, not me, Mike) that he saw paperwork for a 2-door Taurus to come out as a 98 1/2 or 99 model car".

Note from Mike: This could explain how the '98 Taurus stock car looks amazing like a 2-door model. ========== Here's news from Joe Linville, president of the Lake Speed Fan Club:

ADVANTAGE CAMO ENDS MELLING RACING'S HUNT FOR 1997 SPONSORSHIP

Advantage Camouflage has reached and agreement to sponsor the Melling Racing Enterprises Ford driven by Lake Speed for the remainder of the 1997 Winston Cup season. The sponsorship will debut this weekend at the Diehard 500 in Talladega, Alabama. While the car will still be red this weekend, a black, white and camouflage scheme will appear at Rockingham on October 26th. ========== Here's an interesting fact from Tammy, one of our readers:

Wasn't it really wild that at the race before Charlotte (the one that was rain delayed) that 10 years ago DW's wife had their baby girl, Jessica, and this year the day of the race, Michael's wife had a baby girl! Yes, the race was delayed, but I mean same race 10 years apart and both brothers had girls!

Thanks, Tammy. ========== "North Carolina Motor Speedway and Phoenix International Raceway in 1998 will swap dates. The ACDelco 400 in Rockingham, N.C., originally scheduled for Oct. 25, 1998 will move to Nov. 1 and the Phoenix, Ariz., NASCAR Winston Cup race will move to Oct. 25." (Jayski/NASCAR Online) ========== Jayski saw in the Philadelphia Daily News that Coca-Cola Classic will become the Official Soft Drink of NASCAR starting in 1998.

Here's a release from Charlotte.Com:

The Coca-Cola Co. bumped Pepsi-Cola Co. from its national marketing partnership with NASCAR.

As part of the five-year deal that starts in January, Coca-Cola Classic will be designated as the ``official soft drink'' of the stock-car racing circuit. The agreement was announced Thursday.

Pepsi-Cola, which is second to Coca-Cola in the U.S. soft drink market, is in the last months of a three-year national marketing deal with NASCAR and is believed to have submitted a bid to continue the relationship.

Terms of the pact between Coca-Cola and NASCAR were not disclosed. ========== Veteran NASCAR Winston Cup Series driver -- and widely sought relief driver -- Greg Sacks will drive the No. 40 Team SABCO / Coors Light Chevrolet Monte Carlo this weekend at the DieHard 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, and on a race-to-race basis for the rest of the 1997 season. Sterling Marlin of Columbia, Tenn., was recently announced as SABCO's driver for the 1998 NASCAR Winston Cup season. (NASCAR Online) ==========
