Penske duo lock-out front row at Kentucky

Team Penske locked out the front row for this weekend's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Kentucky Speedway earlier today. Brad Keselowski secured his sixth career pole and third this year with a fastest lap speed of 188.791mph. It's also the ninth time he's sat on the front row for a race this year; a very impressive stat. His teammate Joey Logano will start alongside.

Going into the final round of qualifying, Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski, Clint Bowyer, Kurt Busch, Kyle Larson, Jeff Gordon, Jamie McMurray, Kevin Harvick, Denny Hamlin, Ryan Newman, Paul Menard, and Danica Patrick all still had a shot at pole. Logano led the way for the first two minutes of the five minute round until his elder teammate threw down a blistering lap.

Team Penske has won a total of 98 poles at the Sprint Cup level with this being their fourth of 2014. To put the three poles Keselowski in 17 races this season in perspective, he earned the same number of poles in his previous 160 starts.

Some notables starting deep in the field include Kyle Busch (18th), Kasey Kahne (20th), Carl Edwards (23rd), Greg Biffle (24th), Jimmie Johnson (25th), and Dale Earnhardt Jr. (29th). Brad Keselowski also won the pole for Friday night's Nationwide race. Only 42 cars showed up for this race, which marks the first time less than 43 cars showed up to a Sprint Cup event since November of 2001 (New Hampshire Motor Speedway). That being said, there were obviously no DNQ's.
