STATESVILLE, N.C.-- This weekend might be an off weekend for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series but it will be a busy one for Richard Petty and No. 43 Dodge driver Reed Sorenson.

Petty appeared in Indianapolis on Monday to announce that his name is on John Andretti's entry in the 2009 Indianapolis 500 and on Wednesday he'll appear as a panelist on Sean Hannity's television on the Fox News Network.

For Sorenson, the week won't require nearly as much travel as the 23-year-old concentrates on some domestic duties he's not found the time to complete with the busy racing schedule this season.

After the off weekend, Sorenson will drive the Auto Value Dodge at Phoenix International Raceway in the season's eighth race of the season. It marks Auto Value's first if two appearances on the No. 43 Dodge with the Michigan race in August scheduled as the second.

RICHARD PETTY ON HANNITY SHOW APPEARANCE-- "We think that's going to be a pretty neat deal. It's the second highest rated television show on cable so a lot of people tune it. I think it's an honor for our sport that they would ask someone from NASCAR to come on there and talk about whatever the issues of the day are in the world. I think it will be a lot of fun."

SORENSON ON OFF WEEKEND --"My off weekend plans are pretty simple. There are a ton of things that I have to do around the house with putting in some hardwood floors at the top of the list. After that there's a lot of little things that need to get done. We travel so much that I just haven't had the time to just get to work. So that's what I plan for this weekend. Probably not the most exciting thing in the world, but it just has to get done."

SORENSON ON PHOENIX-- "I like Phoenix. It's the fastest mile track we race on. Night racing is pretty cool as well. The sun can pose some problems at times but we can work around that. It's a tough place. It's real easy to get caught up in somebody else's problems there. The track isn't self cleaning. Meaning if someone hits the wall the likelihood they are going to bounce back into traffic is pretty good. The key is to get a good qualifying effort on Friday so you can stay up front and pick a pretty decent pit stall."

* Sorenson finished ninth in the Daytona 500.

* Sorenson will drive chassis 263 at Phoenix. This chassis raced at Las Vegas.

* Sorenson will sign autographs at his merchandise hauler at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday.
