Rain Cancels Qualifying, Hornish to Start 29th at Pocono
POCONO, Pa. (July 31, 2009) Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the Penske Racing No. 77 PPG Dodge Charger, will line up to start the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway in the 29th position on Sunday after Fridays qualifying session was cancelled due to rain.
With the cancellation of qualifying, the field was set by 2009 owner points per the NASCAR rule book. Currently 29th in the standings, the No. 77 team will line up in the 29th starting position on Saturday.
Even though it has been raining today, we were able to get a good hour of practice in this afternoon, said Hornish. Our PPG Dodge Charger was really good in practice running in the tenth spot. I wish we wouldve been able to qualify today because I think we couldve secured a better starting position. Well keep working on it during practice tomorrow and well be ready to race on Sunday.
