MARLIN LOOKS TO MAKE UP FOR LAST TRIP TO POCONO

LONG POND, Pa. (July 19, 2006)-- Sterling Marlin is returning to Pocono Raceway for this weekend's Pennsylvania 500 with something to prove in his No. 14 Ginn Clubs & Resorts Chevrolet. (note: Ginn is pronounced GHIN).

After qualifying 16th for the June event at the 2.5-mile tri-oval, Marlin felt his car was ready to drive to the front in the NEXTEL Cup event. But just 18 laps into the competition, the engine on the No. 14 machine expired, leaving Marlin to wonder what the result would've been if not for the misfortune.

"That was pretty disappointing," said Marlin, who was credited with a 42nd-place result in the event. "The car was a little tight, but we had room to adjust on it and I really thought we had a chance for a good run. Just before the engine failed, I radioed to the team that the car was coming around."

"To be taken out of contention so early is frustrating," he continued. "I hated it for the team who had worked so hard all weekend and for all the folks at Waste Management. We just need to go there this weekend and make up for last time by bringing home a strong finish."

In his 42 starts at Pocono Raceway, Marlin has collected 16 top-10 and six top-five finishes. He has also won two Bud Pole positions.

"To get solid finishes, everything has to be at it's best," said Marlin. "I've seen a lot of good runs go downhill fast at Pocono because of transmission failures, faulty batteries and engines. To be successful, not only does your race car have to be stout, but all of the other components have to be top notch that day--driver, pit crew and parts."

"I think things will work out for us differently this time around in the Ginn Clubs & Resorts Chevy," continued Marlin. "Hopefully we'll be able to put the last trip here behind us and bring home a top finish on Sunday in Pocono."
