"M&M's"® Racing/Ernie Irvan Pocono Raceway Notes And Quotes
Ernie Irvan's Pocono Raceway Highlights...
* Ernie Irvan and the "M&M's"® Racing Team have two top-10 finishes in their last two starts at Pocono Raceway. One month ago Irvan picked up 26 positions en route to an eighth-place finish at the 2.5-mile track. In this same race in 1998, also driving for the "M&M's"® Racing Team, Irvan started 16th and finished ninth.
* The "M&M's"® Racing Team and driver Ernie Irvan have put together a string of top-10 finishes of late. In their last five starts, the "M&M's"® Racing Team has collected three finishes in the top 10. The team finished eighth at Michigan, ninth at Pocono and ninth at Daytona.
* Pocono Raceway is somewhat of a home track for primary sponsor "M&M's"® Chocolate Candies. The colorful chocolate pieces are produced in nearby Hackettstown, N.J., also home to the national headquarters for M&M/Mars, Inc. Hackettstown is about an hour drive from the Poconos.
* Irvan and the "M&M's"® Racing Team tested at Indianapolis Motor Speedway July 19-20 in preparation for the upcoming Brickyard 400.
Ernie Irvan's thoughts on racing at Pocono Raceway... "Pocono is a tricky track to drive, but as of late it seems like I've got a pretty good handle on it. I've also had some really good cars under me as well. We've finished in the top 10 the last two times we've run here and that just goes to show how competitive the "M&M's"® Racing Team can be. We are really maturing as a team. We had a great start to the season, then we hit a bit of a slump, but we have recovered nicely and are on our way to a strong second half of the season. We want to continue to run in the top 10 or top five and we've got to have another good run at Pocono to keep our momentum headed in the right direction."
