Kenseth, No. 17 Team Set Sights on Pocono
After a solid top-five outing at Dover last weekend and fresh off their third straight top-10 finish, the team shifts its focus to Pocono Raceway, where Kenseth finished seventh last spring and 11th in the fall.
OH POCONO
This will be Kenseth's 19th race at Pocono Raceway, where he has three top-five and eight top-10 finishes and has led a total of 32 laps. His best finish of third came there in the spring of '03. He has led at least one lap in nine of his races there, including in the last three.
SPRING SUCCESS
Kenseth has finished in the top 10 in three straight spring races at Pocono (5th in '06, 9th in '07 and 7th in '08).
LAST SEASON AT POCONO
Kenseth's average finish of ninth last season at Pocono was his second best of any season racing at the 2.5-mile track. With his 11th-place run in the fall, he came within one position of finishing both races inside the top 10 for the first time in his Sprint Cup career.
DID YOU KNOW?
Pocono is one of 11 active tracks on the circuit where Kenseth has yet to win a Cup race. Kenseth's 18 wins have come at 11 of the active tracks and at Rockingham (where the series stopped racing after 2004.) In addition, Kenseth has led at all 22 tracks with the exception of Sonoma.
ON A ROLL
With Kenseth's top-five finish at Dover, Kenseth has now posted three consecutive top-10 finishes and four counting his second-place run in the All-Star event two weeks ago at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
IN THE POINTS
The strong finish at Dover moved Kenseth to eighth position in the point standings, 228 points behind first and just 55 points outside of fifth.
MATT...
"Pocono is a very challenging track for a number of reasons. It's the only track we go to with three very distinct turns. The only other tracks with more than two distinctly different turns are road courses. You need a lot of horsepower to get down the long straightaways and you have to have a good handling car to carry that momentum through the turns. The principle is the same at Pocono as anywhere, you have to get through the center of the turn better than the other guys."
DREW...
"The team has really had some solid runs the last few races and we are looking forward to Pocono this weekend. We've been running better, but we still need to improve and find some more speed so we can contend each week. Hopefully we can build on what we have been doing this weekend and let that carry over into the next few weeks."
